Diet sodas have ZERO calories per serving and yet they tell you to cut it out of your diet? I understand water it the best beverage for you but one may yearn for some flavor or treat now and then. Also, there are 0 calories a service but the can says a low calorie beverage, what is up with that?

Edward
who told you? zero means zero.
Duane
You can’t gain weight from drinking 0calories diet drink.
Its bad for your body all those sodas thats why , drink less sodas more water.
Maureen
cuz you get the sugar taste and then your body craves the sugar and then you eat that cake.
Low calorie could me zero I would go with no but I have not been asked to design the packages.
Jesus
My coach told me this One more thing, soda? Do you drink it? Even diet soda can hinder your progress. The chemicals in the soda rob your body of needed nutrients. Slowly wean yourself off of it if. Look for flavored waters as an alternative.
Maria
cos of the sweetners in it?
Bradley
Diet soda will actually make you more fatter then regular soda. Diet soda has artificial flavors or something like that, that can not be digested like regular soda. They say that drinking regular soda is much better then drinking diet soda. I say stick to water!
Dan
i think because since diet coke is sweet, your body thinks that it is going to get some calories, but it doenst so you want to eat more and gain weight? haha plus aspartame (fake sugar) is worse for you than real sugar
Vicki
sugar sodium
Kristen
I am not quit sure, if zero calories is really zero, how about the sugar content, I don’t know, if they count that. Anyway, the carbonation process ads that bubbles, and they are not good for you.
Norman
Consuming artificial sweetener causes you to eat more sugar. This may sound counter-intuitive, but it is real. Your body learns how much sweetness corresponds to how much real sugar, so if you consume artificial sweetener, your body thinks that it needs a lot of sweetness to get even a little sugar, and your desire to eat candy, etc., goes up.

I have heard two things….if it has caffeine, the caffeine ends up stimulating your appetite.
Also, I heard that the acid in carbonated beverages of all kinds have been shown to have an effect on body that increases calorie intake.
So, the theories say that the soda causes you to eat more than you would if you drank water.
Edith
that 0 calories thing is such rubbish, firstly if it has other ingredients from water it will count as a glucose intake thus increasing your calories intake
Douglas
It’s the other stuff in it that makes your body metabolizes the food that you eat differently.

That is just what it means, a low caloric beverage. 0 is a number too, and a low number to boot. I’m sure they define low calorie as a certain number, for example 50 or below per serving. 0 is below 50! Therefore this qualifies.
As for the reason to cut it out of your diet, carbonation, caffeine, artificial flavors and colors are reason why people would not think it is good for you. Hope this helps!

Artificial sweeteners are marketed with the promise of weight control, and the vast majority of people who consume them do so to either lose or avoid gaining weight. Folks, this is a fraud of gigantic proportions.
From 1960 to l976, there was virtually no change in the number of Americans who were overweight: roughly 24 percent of the population. However, from the mid l980s to the present, this number has more than doubled to 54 percent! this coincides with the massive infusion of noncaloric chemical sweeteners and sugar-free diet foods that are eaten by close to three-quarters of the adult population.
Although several factors contribute to these alarming statistics, I am convinced that our blind acceptance of the most popular of these artificial sweeteners, aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful), plays a significant role in our current weight problems. Far from helping us lose weight, aspartame has been proven to increase appetite, especially cravings for sweets. Imagine diet products that help you pack on extra pounds! And aspartame’s downside doesn’t end with weight gain: This sweetener is associated with multiple health problems………….

They tell you to cut it out of your diet because the chemical aspartame is detrimental to your health. Many cases of MS, fibromylgia, gastrointestinal problems lead right back to it.
In my case, it caused a burning in my stomach that I thought was an ulcer.
I Just quite drinking the stuff and it cleared right up.

Artificial sweeteners make your body think that you just had sugar so it needs to let off energy…but there are no calories in the artificial sweeteners so your body/brain looks/craves something sweet. That is why people who drink diet drinks crave diet drinks, and if the drink is not available you will crave sugar or even carbs…because carbs turn to sugar.
